I started work on the custom ram air scoop. I didn't get much done, just cut down the original duct and cut/glued some foam. Just trying to figure out the dimensions at the moment.

Some outdoor pics
I thought it's about time I took some decent outdoor pics of the bike with the CBR1000RR 08 fairings on, and it's also more appropriate to have a picture of the nearly finished bike in the header rather than my cylinder head.
Fuel pump and radiator plumbed up
I wanted to use a dry break in the fuel line so I could quickly and easily remove the tank, for some reason the tank outlet is 8mm but the fuel pump and filter etc are all 10mm. So I had to buy a new (much smaller) filter, and some plastic fuel line bit to plumb it all up, including a 10mm-8mm joining piece. This meant I could finish mounting of the fuel pump. It's now the right way up too :)
I also bought some 90 radiator hose, Silicon stuff was £10 and although it looked trick I figured it would just annoy me every time I took the fairings off, knowing I was drawn in to wasting so much on something you couldn't see and added virtually no performance improvement.

Race dash
Started on the race dash, needs some trimming up to fit. I didn't realise carbon-fibre was so hard to cut, i wont be making one of these again from carbon, it took ages.
The purple temperature gauge wasn't really my first choice, but it was the cheapest waterproof gauge i could find (it was very cheap). I used some gold anodized bolts that came with one of my air-boxes to perfect the hideousness.

Fuel pump and rectifier mounting
I finished mounting the CDI unit (I was waiting for M4 riv-nuts to be delivered) and also drilled some holes in the battery box so i could zip tie the solenoid to it. I've mounted the rectifier and figured out where to mount the quick-shifter, making sure none of the wiring is going to rub on anything sharp. I'm hoping with the regulator/rectifier only having to power the ignition it shouldn't get too hot, especially as its bolted a huge aluminium heat-sink (the subframe) if not i'll have to move it out into the airflow, at least where it is now it's safe(r) from crash damage.
I also started work on the mounting for the fuel pump, I'm planning to replace the filter with a smaller one and use a dry break connector. The dry break is the same length as the current filter so I could swap that out but i still need to figure out how to get a filter in before the pump and that's going to move things a bit, hence why I haven't drilled any holes in the subframe yet.

Battery box and CDI mounting
Fitted the battery box and started on the CDI mounting, i'm happy with where it is and will pop-rivet in place once I'm sure I can still get the battery+box in/out with it in place.
I also changed to mushroom head bolts for the tank mounting plate so it cleared the edges of the tank. I'm now trying to figure out the fuel pump, starter solenoid and rectifier mounting. I did make up and weld on to the battery box some mounting plates for the solenoid , but i just couldn't get the battery box in the bike, so cut them off and will probably zip tie it to the battery box instead.

Lightweight race Battery Box
I've been really tempted to get a lightweight race battery, but although they are over 2kg lighter, they are not physically much smaller. I'm not all that keen on having a 3kg lump hanging off the subframe, it'll help wreck it in a crash, but i talked myself out of getting the lightweight battery because i'm not sure of the power/weight of the bike. I don't want to save the 2kg in battery weight only to have to add it back on as lead.... that'd be some very expensive lead.
There's no way the old battery box will fit, so i've been making a new one from some aluminium sheet I had spare. I'm starting to get the hang of aluminium welding. I lengthened a steel bicycle seat post just before this and my steel welding is still mines better, but i'm getting there.
Nearly finished battery box, i intend to have a velcro strap hold it in, which explains the raised bit in the middle.Mounting lugs welded onto the side. Luckily it just slides/twists into the subframe for mounting... for a little while I started to panic thinking I'd c*cked it up.
Rear Hugger
I've been wondering for why you see quite a few race steelies with a cut down rear hugger. After fitting mine now i know, it's because a 180 tyre rubs.
I think I'll cut out the sides rather than cut it down, my battery box wont protect it/seal the battery in like the standard one so I could do with the extra protection from the longer mudguard.
