After speaking to the makers of my borrowed shift lights I ended up re-wiring my bike so I can take a feed off of the CDI ignition signal. I'm also going to try the same with the quick shifter to see if that gets it working at high RPM too. While I was at it I also added an extra power line for the water pump controller.
I made up a blank for the pump and have plumbed it all up, though at the moment I don't think the fairings will go on with the current pipe routing.
